Two great events are upcoming in Tokyo and of interest to foreign women in the community.

On March 8–9, the Tokyo American Club Women’s Group will be hosting their perennially-popular Tokyo Here and Now event, the essential guide to living in Japan. TAC organisers say that whether you have been in Japan for three months or three years, this event will be of use to you. The two-day, expert-led seminar is a great chance to make new friends while learning about shopping, food, education, travel, and culture.

The event takes place March 8–9 from 8:45am to 3pm, with a cocktail party on March 10 6–9pm and is open to the public. The cost of the seminar is ¥20,000 (cocktail party ¥5,000) for members, and ¥22,000 (cocktail party ¥7,000) for non-members. Cost includes course materials, breakfast, lunch, and light refreshments. Childcare is available for an additional charge.

To register, tel. 03-4588-0670 or visit www.tokyoamericanclub.org.

Meanwhile, on March 17 St. Mary’s International School will be hosting their 57th annual dinner dance from 5pm at their campus in Tokyo. Proceeds from A HeARTful Evening will support student programs for all grades and the SMA Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for college-bound seniors.

The dinner dance program celebrates dance, art, and music. Highlights include the rare opportunity to enjoy dance pieces from classical ballerina Kika Aoyama of Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo, young Kabuki actor Nakamura Umemaru, and Indian folk dancer and founder of the Contemporary Natyam Company, Kyoko Nobi.

Internationally-famous artists in their respective mediums, including painter Yuki Ninagawa, sculptor Len Makabe, jewellery artist, Mayumi Yasugi, painter and graphic designer Sei Shimura, architect and illustrator Edward Suzuki, and soon-to-be-famous artists from the St. Mary’s Elementary School and school alumni donated artwork for a live auction. A musical performance from the St. Mary’s Jazz Band and a DJ spinning songs from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s will round out the evening’s festivities.

Tickets are now on sale. For further information, please visit the St. Mary’s International School website here
