Hello!

My name is Kelly, and I’m moving to Fujinomiya, Shizuoka at the end of September.  I will be teaching English (as seems to be the norm for us single, late-20’s gals smile ) and am looking forward to my time in Japan.  I spent time as a child in Yokosuka and Yokohama, but this was over 15 years ago.  I’m sure Japan has changed a lot since then!

Hi Kelly,

I am not located anywhere near Shizuoka, but I would like to welcome you to the BAB Forum and welcome you back to Japan.  I arrived in 1995 and a lot has certainly changed since then, so you are probably in for a few surprises!  But the essence is the same, I think.

You are so lucky, I really miss Fujinomiya! Yakisoka there is the best. I lived in Fuji for half a year and worked in Fujinomiya at the old Nova that was in Jusco Mall—this was back in 2005. The Jusco is good, oh Shirato Falls is a nice place to visit. Try Bamboo Bar right off the main road from the Jusco. They have 500 yen fondue and drinks, the best…the owner is super nice. Um lots of good places to eat at and definitly cheaper than where I live now. I have some old maps of the Fuji are and Fujinomiya my old Nova boss gave me, they detail some cheap shops and such in the area..if you wanna em PM and I can mail them out to you. I miss Fuji and Fujinomiya dearly. Thinking about taking a trip up there myself to reminisce. Anyways the area’s nice and if you get city fever, Shizuoka’s not far away at all.

I think Fujinomiya is a lot nicer area than some of the surrounding areas of Fuji like Yoshiwara.  I live in Numazu, which is a few stops away on the Tokaido line, if you need any help.  They have an AEON shopping center which is useful for groceries, clothes, and other odds and ends.

My only advice would be to get a car or scooter unless you enjoy bicycling as there aren’t stations near a lot of areas and it can be quite inconvenient.
