13th Feb to 24th Apr: TELL’s Spring 2010 Telephone Counselor Training Program
———————————————————————————-
Tokyo English Life Line (TELL) is now accepting applications for the daytime Telephone Counselors Training Program and will be interviewing applicants throughout December and January. The next training will start on February 13th and run through until April 24th apart from the first and last day of the training which are Saturdays, sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30 – 12.30. Applicants must be fluent in English and over 21 but no prior counseling experience is needed as this course provides training in the skills required for this role.

In addition to the basic training, successful trainees also undertake an apprenticeship on the lifeline which involves and additional 30 - 40 hours, and we are seeking at least a 12 month commitment to the lifeline of 10 hours a month, which includes two shifts per month and 2 hours in supervision. With so many people in Japan struggling with the pressures of everyday life, this is a great opportunity to give back to the community and make a difference in people’s lives. The training is both challenging and rewarding and an excellent opportunity to meet new people, make lasting friendships and learn skills that will benefit you in all aspects of your personal and professional lives.

Finally there is a cost for the training of 35,000 yen,  as a non profit organization serving the foreign community we receive no money from the government and struggle to stay afloat, however if cost is an issue please speak to us.  For further information and application forms visit our website http://www.telljp.com

Mon 1st March 7–9pm: Caroline’s Osaka seminar on writing and publishing
———————————————————————————-
Coming to Osaka in March, Caroline Pover’s popular seminar based on her adventures in writing and publishing books and magazines in Japan provides information and inspiration to any budding authors, editors, journalists, publishers, or entrepreneurs. She touches on all areas of publishing both books and magazines, including developing written material, working with illustrators or photographers, contacting publishers, finding a good editor, layout and design considerations, cover design concepts, printers, storage, financing, marketing, and distribution. This seminar helps authors learn how to market their own work and find out about how the secrets of self-published authors can help their book become more successful.

Participants should come prepared with lots of questions — there is plenty of time to ask them and to address issues unique to your own project. The fee is 4,000 yen, payable before the event. Places are limited so please reserve quickly by emailing Antoinette at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) stating whether you prefer to pay by Paypal or bank transfer. Antoinette will confirm the location near Umeda Station, Osaka.

Read on for some comments from people who have attended Caroline’s publishing seminar before!

” ... not only very interesting and full of very useful and important information but also perfectly well presented in an organized and timely fashion. Caroline’s comments were spot on and she had most of my questions answered by the end of the seminar. I learned a lot and I would definitely recommend this seminar to anyone writing a book.”

“Well structured and insightful presentation. Ms Pover’s enthusiasm is infectious and empowering to all who nurture dreams of penning their own tome”

” ... the seminar gave me a renewed energy for writing.  It started “my wheels turning” and it was REALLY helpful to hear Caroline’s advice ... “

“I am inspired by Caroline’s persistence to penetrate the market while staying true to what is important to her.  It gives me courage to try the same.”

“Caroline’s self-publishing seminar in Tokyo was extremely helpful in itself — all kinds of nuts & bolts advice we could start using right away — but it also included a large dose of entrepreneuring tips. Great value. I would probably go again just to catch anything I missed the first time.”

Thu 4th Mar: Caroline’s speech to ACCJ Kansai members
———————————————————————————-
Come meet Ms. Caroline Pover, recipient of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) “British Business Award for Best Entrepreneur”. Ms. Pover is an author, publisher, and well-known entrepreneur. She is Founder of the “Being A Broad” magazine and network, and her successes include starting-up and building a publishing business, Alexandra Press, in addition to acquiring and breathing new life into Weekender Magazine which she later sold.
Caroline has written two books—one is presently in its fifth printing! She has produced several other publications too, including the ACCJ’s 13th Edition of Living in Japan, and, known as a master promoter, has expanded into new ground, managing local American artist David Hewett.
Join us to learn how she does it. Caroline will share her experiences in starting, growing, and selling a business in Japan, providing us with insights on how to plan to deal with the worst if it happens. She will call upon her publishing experience to advise us on how independent businesses can grow by using opportunities within print and online media, so if you’ve got a message that’s not getting across (and who doesn’t?), then maybe Caroline can help you.
