Hi All,
After years of suffering with the demon that is PMS, I’ve decided it’s time to seek treatment. I was wondering if any of you had sought diagnosis and/or treatment here in Japan and if so, what kind of response did you get? What medication was prescribed? And finally, if you are in the Kansai region, do you have any recommendations for a doctor?
I appreciate your reply
Meatless Mondays, anyone?!?!

Dear Broads,

I was not sure whether to post this into food or health section, and I guess it’s here now. Looking for ideas, inspirations, hints to spread the idea of healthy “meatless mondays” to schools, kindergartens, communities, organisations, corporations. “MeatFree Mondays” is the one Paul MacCartney follows on his Twitter apart from Beatles:
https://twitter.com/#!/MeatFreeMonday (Paul MacCartney
They have this on their Twitter: “Meat Free Monday is a campaign to help the planet, reduce carbon emmissions of meat production by helping us all be meat-free on a monday”.

Here are websites with recipes, etc.
http://www.meatfreemondays.com/index.cfm

http://www.meatlessmonday.com/

Meatless Monday Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meatless_Monday
From Wikipedia:
“In his book In Defense of Food (May, 2009) journalist Michael Pollan coined the phrase “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” He has since cited Meatless Monday as a way to reach this goal…In April 2009 Pollan expressed the need for Americans to reduce meat consumption on The Oprah Winfrey Show: “even one meatless day a week—a Meatless Monday, which is what we do in our household—if everybody in America did that, that would be the equivalent of taking 20 million mid-size sedans off the road.”

Please share your tips. The Earth would be grateful to all, and your health will be better which would save money on medical bills (and my vegan shopping is way cheaper as I can’t eat out so much-restaurants don’t normally cook healthy at affordable prices so I save money by cooking myself most of the time!). Thanks!

Orthodontist (for adults) in Tokyo?

Hi everyone!

Hope you had a great summer! I did and I’m in my post-holiday depression mode for about two weeks now :(

Anyway: My teeth.

I don’t really have any teeth issues that aren’t… Esthetic.

Can anyone recommend a good English speaking orthodontist in Tokyo?

I’ve got biggish gaps in between my teeth and have always wanted porcelain veneers, but due to the cost I’ve never really done anything about it; and I’ve always lived in fear of having braces and being a metal mouth… But now I’ve given up on being stingy and I think I can bring sexy braces back
I’ve visited Japanese dentists with basic English for check-ups and whitenings, but I would feel more comfortable with someone who I can communicate efficiently with and who is specialized in this area, as I’m pretty sure a lot of new technology has come up over the last few years that I don’t know about.

Any tips/experience/advice?

Thanks!

Bit of research — where does everyone go for a normal bits and boobs check-up?! You used to be able to get a PAP smear and mammogram at Midtown Medical Centre for 25,000 yen and now it costs 60,000. Where does everybody go for that very important annual check-up?!

Broads,

I am doing research work for HEALTHY SCHOOLS Alliance who are working on reducing or eliminating obesity at US schools.
http://www.healthiergeneration.org/
Because of my location (Japan), I research international and other schools in Japan and beyond-not just US. I told them to pay me only if they find my research educational and useful. I told them to pay me whatever they think I deserve, and pay me nothing if they think my research is useless (in reply to salary requirements question).

I’d like to hear your ideas or concerns about schools becoming healthy. Here or privately, but I prefer public messages to private. Thank you.

Hello everyone!

I’m actually writing on behalf of my sister. She recently had a doctor’s appointment here in Tokyo with a doctor who accepts our American health insurance. The problem now is that she has to submit for reimbursement. To do that, we have to fax documents over to our health insurance company in the States. But when we tried the faxes at 7/11 and such, they just can’t do it (probably because it’s international?). Does anyone know where we could find a free or cheap international fax machine so we can send those documents? Thanks for your time! ^^

Hello Broads,

On Feb 20 (Sun),2011 I plan to make in Yubari an education film about smoking for children. I would like to focus on the damage it does to non-smokers with poison fumes which cause cancer in non-smokers. If you have any material you think I should see or use in the film, please share it here. Thank you. Hope this thread would help some finally wake up and quit as too many children get poisoned with smoking fumes, slowly getting all sorts of cancers and other illnesses.

Thank you. Puff puff stinky me (I smoked a little when I was a student, I was so stupid to think it was trendy as I listened to my friends and not common sense). Look forward to hearing from you-pictures, films, whatever-most if not all Broads will benefit for sure. All children will benefit for sure.

I’ve been taking birth control for over 10 years solely for my mild acne. It does wonders for it.

Is birth control covered in Japan under NHI for uses like managing acne, or irregular periods?

If not, is the visit to the gynecologist at least covered for receiving the Pill?

hey all
so I’ve been in japan a few months now, and well my pain killers that I brought from home have finished.
I really need to find some meds that are strong enough to combat really bad cramps. I am not going back home for awhile and dont want to have to deal with importing and then dealing with customs. ( i had to do this already for some birth control and it was hell)

please please I really need some painkillers soon!
anyone know the name of a good brand?
