Hello;
I am a British long term Japan resident newly relocated to Kyoto.
Is anyone interested in getting together to try new restaurants/socialize in the Kyoto area on a monthly basis?

Looking to meet new people, try new places, in a relaxed way.

Any nationality/gender welcome.

Best,
Jill

Where to meet eccentric people

Ok, so I’ve realized I have no problem with meeting people here in Tokyo, but I am just too weird to keep them as friends unless I “tone down” my personality, and I’m starting to realize that I’m better off just seeking out friends as weird as I am. I can get strangely passionate about certain things (like an otaku, except I find my passions cover many more topics than otaku here, and I can’t remember as much info as them haha) and can be a little abrasive due to being too honest (though I do know how to be tactful when I need to :3 It’s just tiring!). I’m stubbornly independent-minded, and of course it’s hard to be that way here, and hate being told to believe something just because it’s “common sense”. I love people who consider gender as much of a social construct as I do and thus aren’t afraid to bend it. :3 I’m both annoyingly rational and interested in science, sf, etc. and artsy fartsy at the same time, I’m empathetic to the point where I often cry when I read the news, and pretty sensitive though I hide it well. I just wish I could let a little more of myself and my ideas out without chasing people away. I think only other weird people will accept my own weirdness.

I’m not interested in relationships, I just want guy and girl friends.

If anyone here can relate to my post, where do YOU meet weird and interesting people who accept you for who you are (who aren’t dangerous anyway)?

Where to meet guys?

I keep seeing the request in the BAB e-newsletter for women who have found love in Japan and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for meeting guys here. What, where, how do people go about it in Japan? I’m living in Saitama, so not far from Tokyo, but not sure of where to go. I’ve tried the International parties once and that was just bizarre. Not sure if that’s a good route. But I definitely need some suggestions. I’ve looked on craigslist, as that’s used a lot at home, but not so much in Tokyo. match.com seems to only be in Japanese, or I couldn’t find the right page… Are online sites the best way to go? Where’s a good place to go out, although my luck in the US was no good at clubs. Those guys generally aren’t the type I’d actually date.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been in Japan for about 7 months now and have had very little success in making friends here.
I was wondering if there was anyone in Niigata prefecture who would like to meet up for coffee in the near future.
I like in Nagaoka-shi but dont mind traveling to Niigata-shi.

Hikers in Kansai

Hi girls!

Any broads living in the Kansai area interested in being hiking partners? The girl I usually go hiking with is moving back to America soon :( We had alot of fun exploring Uji in Kyoto and Kurondo in Osaka prefecture. I’m not too hardcore; I don’t own hiking boots or any gear. I just enjoy getting out into nature and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine for a few hours.

My schedule is pretty flexible since I’m not working right now. (Just doing the “house wife thing” until I can think of something else I’d like to do.) Thursday morning / early afternoon would be ideal. But of course I’d also be willing to go on a different day. (I realize most people’s schedules are more demanding than my own.) If anyone living in Kansai is interested, let me know!

Tokyo Women’s Book Club

Hello All,

My name is Mariko/Oprah.

I just joined Being A Broad and I am so happy about it!!! Yey!!
It is a very informative discussion board for international woman like me!!

Does anyone here like to read and share many different kinds of topics with other people?
I have been wondering for so long if there is anyone who is interested in doing a book club in Tokyo.
I am wondering if there is any chance I can create a book club basically for women living aroud Tokyo area. It will be like Tokyo Women’s Book Club or something like that. We pick up a book that is related to empowering women, self-confidence, relationship, multiculturalism and so on.
We meet up every month or so and discuss. We can discuss over a nice bottle of wine and good food.
I think it is a great start for someone who is very much interested in making friends in Japan but are too shy to act so far.
We can maybe start a good friendship by a very good book!!

What do you think?

Cheers,
Mariko/Oprah
